Ensuring structural integrity in seismic-prone regions by utilizing numerical methods.

We perform seismic and structural qualification by analysis using competent Finite Element software. Depending on the complexity of the task (including factors such as geometry, analysis type, boundaries) we choose the appropriate software package that will produce the necessary results at an efficient timeframe.  These engineering packages include industry standard software SAP2000 by Computers and Structures Inc. and ANSYS by ANSYS Inc.

 

We are experts in dynamic analysis, whether it involves Response Spectrum analysis or modal based and direct integration transient Time History analysis with both linear and non-linear elements. And of course, we cover all aspects of linear and non-linear static/static co-efficient, modal analysis (frequency search), harmonic, push-over or buckling and other types of analysis as needed.

 

Considering the particularities of each equipment, we adjust the simulated geometry of the model aiming to achieve a realistic response with a computationally reasonable model. We then apply all mechanical properties on the structural members, assign masses on non-structural members and create representative contacts and supports. The result is a finite element model that accurately captures the mass and stiffness characteristics of the real equipment. In cases where actual test data is available, we can calibrate the model to align with the test results. Subsequently, we apply all the required loads based on specifications and industry norms. These loads may encompass seismic actions, terminal loads, internal pressure, thermal loads, short-circuit loads, wind, ice, snow, operational loads or other relevant factors. We then perform the analysis, extract the results, post-process the output and check if the acceptance criteria are met for all structural members (steel/aluminum/composite/ceramic parts), bolts, welds and anchors. If the criteria are satisfied, we generate the qualification by analysis report, which serves as the final deliverable for our clients.
